# Review of Scandic Polar Hotel in Rovaniemi (3/2025)

## Location
The location of Scandic Polar is excellent - very convenient in the center of Rovaniemi and close to shops, pubs, and restaurants. This makes it easy to explore the city on foot and enjoy the local amenities.

## Food
The food at the hotel is good quality but lacks variety from day to day. During my stay, I had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel, and while tasty, the menu became repetitive.

## Staff
The staff members are friendly and welcoming, providing good service throughout my stay.

## Rooms
The rooms are clean and spacious, offering comfortable accommodation.

## Facilities
The hotel has a homely atmosphere but feels somewhat outdated, with visible signs that renovations haven't been done for quite some time. There are signs indicating a sauna and gym on the -1 floor, but these facilities are closed and not operational.

## Overall Impression
Scandic Polar is a decent hotel for an overnight stay, but I wouldn't recommend it for longer visits. It provides the basic amenities needed for a comfortable short stay, but its dated appearance and limited facilities make it less suitable for extended periods.

The location is within easy access to walk to the river, bus services, and pick up directly out the front for most tours. Staff were friendly and accommodating, room was clean, heating worked, bed was comfy. The breakfast was also good to have as food prices are a little high in general across Finland (particularly for some foreign currency exchanges). The hotel itself though - including the rooms - is outdated. For the price you pay for a room you'd expect something that doesn't seem like it got stuck in the 1970s and never evolved. It's a rabbit warren to get to some of the rooms and at times can have an abandoned feeling.

Bis auf die gute Lage leider nichts positives.
Das Hotel ist total veraltet. Wir kamen nicht mit dem Fahrstuhl in unser Stockwerk und mussten unsere Koffer eine Etage selbst hochtragen. Die Zimmer sind sehr klein und altmodisch und die Betten viel zu weich. Es gab keinen Safe und der Fernseher hatte nur 13 Programme, wovon nicht mal alle funktionierten. Das Bad ist auch sehr in die Jahre gekommen und die Lüftung lief die ganze Nacht. Zudem sind die Zimmer sehr hellhörig.
Frühstück ist ok.
Preis-Leistung: Preis sehr hoch (250 Euro / Nacht) Leistung sehr gering. Bei uns wäre das nicht mal ein 2-Sterne-Hotel. Sehr enttäuschend und nicht empfehlenswert, leider!

I recently stayed at Scandic Polar during my visit to Rovaniemi, and it was a pleasant experience. The hotel’s central location made it easy to explore the city and access nearby attractions, including Santa Claus Village and the beautiful Arctic Circle.||The staff were friendly and welcoming, always ready to assist with any queries. The breakfast spread was delightful, with a variety of options to start the day on a good note. My room was clean and cozy, though a bit dated in design. However, it had all the essentials needed for a comfortable stay.||If you’re looking for a convenient and reasonably priced hotel in the heart of Rovaniemi, Scandic Polar is a good choice. I would happily stay here again on my next visit!

This traditional hotel is conveniently located right in the center of Rovaniemi. It may need a little renovation, but on the other hand it has the charm of a bygone era. The service is friendly and the rooms are clean and comfortable. I especially recommend stopping by the pub Pisto, located downstairs in the hotel, whose rough clientele and simple interior give an impression of a different, original Rovaniemi than the Christmas lights on the tourist streets show. Prices in the high (close to the Christmas time) season are very high, but so they are everywhere at Rovaniemi.

The hotel is not worth the money! We paid around 600 € for two nights - two persons. Poor standard - bad smell from the bathroom and water at the floor from a little shower next to the toilet. |Is it very loud - you can hear everything from the other rooms and the street. |Breakfast not worth mention - they tried but it did not taste good at all. |We had no cleaning of the room - it seems like they forgot about our room. |Ok the bright side - very good lokation and the beds were acceptable.

Das Hotel hat eine gute Lage im Stadtzentrum. Das Frühstück ist wirklich einladend, mit viel Auswahl und leckerem Essen.
Das Hotel ist leider schon sehr in die Jahre gekommen. Die Zimmer sind wenn auch relativ groß überhaupt nicht einladend und gemütlich gestaltet. Generell ist alles sehr dunkel.
Die Sauberkeit lässt leider auch sehr zu wünschen übrig. Unter den Betten wurde bei uns nicht geputzt, ebenso wie die Fensterbank. Als wir die Vorhänge komplett aufgezogen haben, hat man eine bestimmt schon seit Monaten unberührte Staubschicht gesehen....

Huone oli saunallinen. Ihan siisti. Vanhahta ja kulahtanut sisustus. Palvelu oli 100%. Lähdettiin aikaisin aamusta lennolle niin oli laitettu ilman pyyntöä aamupalat pussukkaan että sai kentälle matkalla syödä.
