What a fab place Villa Norppa is. We are a family of five (three teens) from the UK and were looking for a peacful retreat to chill out and relax. The villa has its own pier onto the lake, which is connected to the larger lake Saimaa. With just a handful of properties within a few kilometres it is effectively a private lake. The water in August was warm enough to swim - we really enjoyed our early morning swim before a nice strong coffee on the deck with views of the lake and forest.
The sauna was great too - warmed up in about 90 mins - and right next to the lake so we could have a cold plunge afterwards - and repeat!
Villa Norppa comes with a rowboat and we rented a couple of SUPs for the week from Matti and Mikka. The lake was calm enough to be able to explore a fair distance from the Villa. On our second day we were blessed by a visit from a ringed seal which popped up about 10 metres from one of the paddleboards. We also hired a motorboat for a day, which was great fun but daunting in terms of the likelihood of getting lost - after a while every shoreline looks the same!
The Villa is well kitted out with a good kitchen, large TV, wifi, gas BBQ etc.
It is remote. The nearest town is about 35-40 minutes drive but the supermarkets are well stocked and had everything we needed for a week.
A trip to Punkaharju and Savonlinna is a must.
It was everything we were hoping it would be, and more. So much so, we're thinking of going back next year. Would highly recommend.
